FAR Eastern University goes for a sweep of the first round eliminations of the UAAP men’s basketball tournament when it takes on Adamson Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Tamaraws are eyeing their seventh straight win in the 2 p.m. encounter and a sweep of their first round assignment for the first time in three years.
In the second game, De La Salle and National University try to gain a share of second place as they lock horns at 4 p.m.
The league then takes a break for about two weeks to give way to the country’s hosting of the Fiba-Asia Men’s Championship.
FEU is coming off a huge 77-67 victory over University of Santo Tomas exactly a week ago.
A win over the Falcons will allow the Tamaraws to duplicate the same feat they pulled in 2010 where they also completed a seven-game sweep of the first round.
A victory will likewise give FEU a three-game cushion ahead of second-running University of the East and University of Santo Tomas (4-3), which lost to defending champion Ateneo Saturday, 61-57.
Adamson is also looking for a win in its bid to join UST and UE at second spot as it looks to bounce back from a 67-70 loss to La Salle last Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the winner of the NU-La Salle match-up forges a logjam at second place.
Coming off an eight-day break, the Bulldogs are eyeing to break their losing skid after suffering back-to-back losses against FEU and Adamson, respectively.
Standings: FEU 6-0, UST 4-3, UE 4-3, Adamson 3-3, DLSU 3-3, NU 3-3, Ateneo 3-4, UP 0-7.
