RENZO Subido is looking forward to join the San Juan Knights in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), even as he remains focused with University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP where he will be playing his final year with the Growling Tigers.
Subido said he will still play out his fifth and final year with the Growling Tigers this season, even though he has already committed to join the Knights.
“I’ll still play my final year,” Subido said.
Subido said it was UST coach Aldin Ayo who advised him to look for an MPBL team even though he will still be playing for the Growling Tigers this season.
“Actually kaya ko inaccept ‘yung offer dito kasi si coach Aldin mismo nagsabi na maghanap na ako ng MPBL team para rin after the season, may team na ako,” said the 23-year-old Subido.
Subido said accepting the Knights' offer is a good step for his career as he moves to a higher level of basketball after the collegiate ranks.
Incidentally, Subido will join a San Juan team that won the title in the Datu Cup, the second season of the league.
“It’s a great opportunity for me kasi ako gusto ko rin matuto. May mga veterans dito na galing sa PBA. Marami akong matututunan sa kanila. This is a good opportunity for me kasi championship team and ‘yung experience na meron sila, hopefully, matuto ako doon,” said Subido.
Subido is also excited to learn from the likes of former PBA players such as Mac Cardona, John Wilson, and Larry Rodriguez.
“Very excited ako to play with them. Siyempre, ‘yung experience na meron sila, hopefully, ma-adopt ko. Marami ako matutunan that will help me grow as a player,” said Subido.
