TWO streaking teams in Far Eastern University and Adamson University clash on Saturday in the UAAP Season 80 seniors basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Both squads have identical 4-2 win-loss slates heading into their 4 p.m. match. The Tamaraws and the Falcons are also on a three-game winning streak and are both in third place in the standings behind unbeaten Ateneo (6-0) and La Salle (5-1).
FEU coach Olsen Racela welcomed the break after the Tamaraws ended a three-game week with a 78-59 victory over University of the Philippines on Sunday.
“It’s a welcome break for us but it’s going to be a tough game (against Adamson). They are a well-coached team. Maganda ‘yung sistema nila. I think it’s a chance for us to grow as a team,” said Racela.
Meanwhile, the Falcons survived UP on Wednesday after Sean Manganti converted a game-winning putback with 1.4 seconds left in the game, 73-71.
Adamson coach Franz Pumaren said the tight game against UP is just what the Falcons need down the stretch as they look to finish the first round on a strong note.
“It’s a good test for us. We need this type of game down the stretch. The way I look at it, there is no easy game because everyone is jockeying for the top two spots,” said Pumaren.
