WITH the core of Ateneo's UAAP champion squad out of the lineup, Kiefer Ravena will be left to carry much of the load when the Eagles take on fierce rival University of Santo Tomas in the quarterfinals of the University Games' basketball tournament at the West Negros University gym Bacolod City.
Sophomore Ravena has led the Blue Eagles to a group-best 4-0 (win-loss) record in the absence of seniors Greg Slaughter and Nico Salva as well as regulars Ryan Buenafe, and Oping Sumalinog.
The Blue Eagles, however, will face their toughest test yet on Friday when they take on a Tigers team looking for payback after their defeat to Ravena and Co. in the last UAAP Finals.
Compared to the Eagles, the Tigers brought a more solid lineup to Bacolod led by Jeric Teng, Aljon Mariano, and Tata Bautista.
“They are a more complete team than we are,” said Ateneo team manager Paolo Trillo.
The Blue Eagles topped Group A after defeating Colegio San Agustin-B, 85-68, on Thursday while UST finished with a 3-1 win-loss card in Group C, which Adamson topped.
