LONGSHOT as it may seem, University of the East officials are hoping to convince Precious Momowei to make a detour and return to campus.

That's even after the enigmatic Nigerian forward announced his farewell from the Recto school after three seasons with the Red Warriors.

UE's Precious Momowei

SPIN.ph sources shared that the top brass understands the worth of having Momowei in the lineup, especially after a tumultuous winless campaign in UAAP Season 88.

Though he was on the fringe at times, Momowei, as sources shared, ultimately wanted to stay in UE, as seen in his lengthy statement on Friday.

"It's been family, growth, and memories that will last a lifetime. Every practice, every game, every win and loss shaped us into stronger athletes and better people. I'm grateful for the brotherhood, the lessons, and the pride of wearing this jersey. I have always wanted to finish my playing years at UE or at least get a degree but I guess God have other plans for me," he wrote.

However, he grew disheartened, especially with coach Chris Gavina opting to go on a different route in this reclamation project for the Red Warriors.

One more collegiate season for Precious?

And with that, Momowei is ready to move on, as he plots his next move - one that will take him to an unconventional turn to the other side of Mendiola.

UE's Precious Momowei

The same sources pointed to Momowei taking his act to Centro Escolar University where he will be handled by coach Joe Silva, also curiously a former coach of the Red Warriors, as it competes in the Universities and Colleges Athletic League (UCAL).

By playing three seasons in UE, Momowei can no longer suit up for a UAAP school, due to league rules deducting two years of eligibility for internal transfers. And the NCAA is also not an option given the league's stance prohibiting foreign student-athletes.

As much as UE officials are praying to the heavens for a belated change of heart, Momowei moving out is as green as go.
