UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas' loss to Ateneo on Wednesday was so stinging for Soulemane Chabi Yo that he was willing to do everything just to get the España-based side back on the right track.
And to the Growling Tigers, that willingness worked to their detriment early on in their clash against National University on Sunday.
"We wanted to come back because we lost to Ateneo. We really wanted to win that game and that's why everybody wanted to score, to do their best, and we were going away to the system," he said.

It took time, but UST went back to basics, employing its hounding defense and crisp ball movement to subdue NU, 87-74 in comeback fashion in overtime.
Chabi Yo had a huge hand in that rally, pouring 23 points, 20 rebounds, and four assists, including the tough lay-up that tied the game at 70 with 2.1 seconds left in regulation.
"After that, we tried to recover and it was okay. We have to learn from our mistakes," said the Beninese forward as the Growling Tigers had to do everything in their power to fight back after trailing by five, 68-63, in the final 42.3 ticks of the fourth quarter.
"We were already about to lose the game, but if the time is not yet gone, we still have a chance. We were lucky and we'll take it," the 23-year-old said.
As confidence-boosting as the come-from-behind win was, Chabi Yo knows that the learning continues for UST as it tries to finetune coach Aldin Ayo's system while bracing for its next games in UAAP Season 82, starting on Wednesday against Adamson.
"We still need to improve in playing within the system because sometimes we go away from the system. Everybody wants to score and everybody wants to shoot and that was our problem in the first three quarters," he said.
"Rather than we divert from the system, we come back to our game. In this game, we played as a team and it paid off so we have to learn from that. Good thing we didn't lose, but we have to do something about that."
