SHAUN Ildefonso will join his father Danny Ildefonso at National University following his stint with Ateneo in the juniors and seniors division of the UAAP.
The younger Ildefonso announced his move on his Twitter account @shaunildefonso on Monday night, adding that a chance to play for his father Danny, currently the assistant coach of NU, was a big reason for his transfer.
Even with his move, Shaun, 18, said Ateneo will always be his home.
“My journey in Ateneo was nothing short of a great ride, but as they say, all good things come to an end. I have to take risks to reach my full potential as an athlete.
“A new opportunity came my way, to play for the NU Bulldogs with my Tatay. I believe that NU will be a great place for me to hone and improve my skills to be a better basketball player and a better person as well,” said Shaun, who thanked the Ateneo community for their support.
Ildefonso will take a one-year residency and will be eligible to play for the Bulldogs in 2018 or in Season 81.
The 6-foot-2 Shaun played for the Blue Eaglets in his high school days, averaging 10.1 points and 6.9 rebounds in Season 78. Entering college, however, he saw limited playing time in his first year in college when Ildefonso saw action for just five games in Season 79.
Shaun’s move came after his father Danny Ildefonso accepted an offer to become one of the assistant coaches of his alma mater following the signing of Jamike Jarin as head coach of the Bulldogs.
