DESPITE his reported move to coaching TNT KaTropa, Far Eastern University coach Nash Racela insisted he is focused on the task of leading the Tamaraws in their bid for back-to-back titles.

With FEU athletic director Mark Molina at his side, Racela politely declined to answer questions regarding anything directly related to Talk ‘N Text during the postgame press conference of their 63-60 win over University of the Philippines on Saturday.

Racela is reportedly set to replace Jong Uichico at the helm of TNT starting the coming PBA season, but the official announcement has yet to be made, and the young Tams coach made it clear he’s in no rush to leave his post.

“If it comes, it comes. If hindi, nandiyan naman ang FEU,” said Racela.

Racela has coached in different levels, from the national youth team to the pros with the Batangas Blades in the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA) where he won a title in 2001. He is now in his fourth year as head coach of the Tamaraws before news broke about his impending move to TNT.

However, Racela clarified that he has never considered coaching in the PBA as his dream job as he’s satisfied in just being able to coach as a profession.

“Siguro a lot of people will say it’s a coach’s dream to lead a PBA team. But it came to a point sa buhay ko na if it comes, it comes. If hindi, I’m satisfied kung nasaan ako because I think part of that realization is that I realize na God is really faithful na kahit gusto kong maging head coach, hindi niya binibigay, but all those years since I started coaching, hindi ako nababakante,” he said.

“Kahit hindi mo makuha ‘yung gusto mo, faithful naman si God at hindi ka niya pababayaan,” he added.

For his part, Molina reiterated the focus of the Tamaraws is their title defense this season, and shared that Racela himself told the players not to be distracted with all the news about the possible coaching change.

“Ang una naming concern is ‘yung reaction ng players. I don’t know kung may kinalaman dun why we had a slow start but coach Nash has addressed it in practice and before the game na wala ng distraction,” said Molina.
