CHIANG Kai Shek College guard JV Gallego is looking to join the La Salle men’s team in the UAAP after he graduates next year.
The 15-year-old, third-year shooting guard bared his intentions to join the Green Archers after leading the Blue Dragons to the National Basketball Training Center national title on Sunday and earning the title of Most Outstanding Player of the NBTC.
Against the reigning UAAP junior champion National University for the Seaoil NBTC National High School Championship crown on Sunday, Gallego poured in 32 points including 16 in the final period of an 88-80 win.
Gallego, son of former Mapua Cardinal John Melvin, admitted that he had already drawn interest from several college teams with still one year to go in high school.
But he had one school in mind when asked by reporters after the game what college he prefers.
“La Salle,” Gallego answered.
Not just boosting his stock on a chance at playing in the bigger league, Gallego’s heroics also underscored Chiang Kai Shek’s status as one of the top high school programs in the country.
Beating the Bullpups, Gallego said, only made it sweeter.
“Sobrang malaki ito dahil Chinese team kami. Hindi namin akalain na mag-cha-champion kami dito. Worth the wait lahat,” said Gallego.
The NBTC crown added to the list of titles CKSC has recently won, including the Metro Manila Basketball League and the Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation.
Gallego, however, said it would have been nice to also win in their mother league Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association.
When asked if Chiang Kai Shek can win the Tiong Lian crown, Gallego said: “Kaya.”
