SACRED Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu fought back from an early 16-point deficit to defeat San Beda, 82-78, on Sunday and claim the Seaoil-National Basketball Training Center title at the Meralco Gym.
Janjan Jaboneta scored 18 of his 27 points in the second half, Joshua Sinclair added 15 points and 17 rebounds, while Zach Huang had 14 points and eight for the Magis Eagles, who trailed 18-2 but quickly recovered and closed in, 18-21, by the end of the first frame.
SHS-AdC also took advantage of an injury to Chami Diputado to annex its third NBTC crown but the first since Metro Manila teams began joining the league in 2013.
“’Yung mga bata, hindi nag-give-up. Gusto nila talaga mag-champion,” said SHS-AdC assistant coach Francis Auquico.
The Magis Eagles had a telling 11-0 run to complete the comeback, with Jaboneta and Huang taking over in the fourth to turn a 68-66 deficit into a 77-68 lead.
