RON Dennison took all the heckling in stride in Far Eastern University’s loss against rival La Salle in their UAAP Season 80 opener on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The veteran guard out of Cebu was expected to be a target for fans of the Green Archers after his involvement in the melee in Davao.

The fans of La Salle definitely made the 6-foot guard hear it all game long. The problem was, that didn’t seem to bother Dennison at all.

Instead of unsettling Dennison, the jeering may have pushed the defensive-minded ace to show off other facets of his game, including an improved offensive skillset.

Dennison was definitely the brightest spot for the Tamaraws in the loss, finishing with 21 points on 10-14 shooting to go along seven rebounds and four assists.

“Binoo-boo pala ako, hindi ko naririnig eh,” Dennison said in jest after the game.

For Dennison, it was the perfect stage for him to showcase that he’s more than just the players that his ‘haters’ think he is.

“Ayun, dagdag motivation. Alam ko na yun, lahat ng tao, lalo na La Salle, against sila sa akin, pinakita ko sa kanila na kaya ko na maglaro ng malinis. Nakita naman siguro nila yun,” he added.

Despite the big game, Dennison rued how the Tamaraws wasted the perfect opportunity to upend La Salle after going down big in the first half.

They did make a good account of themselves in the latter part of the game, trimming the La Salle lead to just four after trailing by as many as 23.

“Sayang. Nakakuha kami ng momentum nung five minutes ng fourth ata yun. Pero nakapos na. Naunahan na kami, natambakan kami ng first half,” Dennison said.

“Parang iba mentality ng kasama ko. Di lang ready. Yung iba baguhan palang. Nanibago sa crowd. Iba kasi UAAP talaga e. Nakakuha kami ng momentum nung fourth pero kinapos parin,” he added.

What’s important now for Dennison is how they’ll bounce back from this and take all the lessons that they can get from this loss.

If there’s one thing that this game proved, it’s that once can never count these Tamaraws out.

“Nakita parin namin na kaya parin namin, ayun lang, wala nga, late na talaga. Magaadjust nalang kami. Move-on na kami dun, tapos na yung La Salle e. On to the next game na kami.”
