LAS Vegas high school standout Robin Rosales is taking his talents to National University in the UAAP, bringing along his dreams of someday making it to Gilas Pilipinas.

Rosales is set to come over to the Philippines this month for the coming semester to join the Bulldogs where he will vie for a spot in the UAAP squad next year after studying in Las Vegas’ Chaparral High School.

Born to Filipino parents, the 5-foot-10 Rosales decided to build a career in basketball here. He won several awards in the Division Sunrise 1A and once won a MVP in the Legacy tournament, a competition between high school teams in the surrounding Las Vegas area.

“Bigger opportunities and to make my parents and family happier since they are Filipino,” said Rosales, when asked why he made the move. “I have a family out in the Philippines as well so they are excited.”

Rosales was also excited to try it out in the country after watching clips of Gilas Pilipinas countless times, thanks to his older brother.

“I always dreamt of playing for Gilas to represent. My brother would show me all these videos of UAAP basketball and Gilas playing and it pretty much inspired me and how one day I want to represent,” said Rosales.

NU is hoping the entry of Rosales bolsters its promising, young backcourt next season. But for now, Rosales already has high hopes for the current batch of Bulldogs in Season 79.

“Final Four is a guarantee for NU. They just have to be the hungriest team to get that championship,” said Rosales.
