ADAMSON claimed its first win in the UAAP Season 80 basketball tournament, defeating University of Santo Tomas, 88-81, on Saturday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Robbie Manalang atoned for his struggles in his first game as he came up with 19 points, five assists, and two steals for the Falcons, who improved their record to 1-1.
Adamson pulled away with a 10-0 run to hold a 70-57 lead after UST came to within three points in the third quarter.
Tyrus Hill also provided the highlight of the game as the Adamson athletic forward dunked over Jeepy Faundo in the first play of the second half.
"We will be needing this kind of game. Actually, we are still struggling. We had mental mistakes down the stretch," said coach Franz Pumaren after Adamson bounced back from a 85-65 loss to Ateneo on Saturday.
Rookie Kurt Lojera had another respectable showing for the Falcons as he had 16 points, while Sean Manganti, another veteran who struggled on opening weekend, scored 11.
Faundo tallied 21 points and 12 boards for UST, which lost for the second straight time.
The Tigers committed the highest number of turnovers in a game since 2003 with 41 but managed to keep the game close in the fourth.
"You have to give credit to UST. Several times, we thought that they are going to quit but they still played hard. At least, we were a different team compared to our last game," said Pumaren.
