RICCI Rivero was spotted at the National University grounds early Monday afternoon, triggering speculations among fans that the high-flying guard may be moving to the Bulldogs’ lair.
Rivero, alongside brother Prince and reserve Brent Paraiso, has been taken out of the La Salle lineup due to a conflict over endorsement deals, the school announced on Friday night.
Although the school said the three are still enrolled and attending classes, insiders doubt if the Riveros will remain at Taft beyond the current trimester.
That's why his appearance at National University made quite a stir, with legions of his fans wondering if the UAAP Season 80 Mythical Team member is indeed NU bound.
However, Bulldogs head coach Jamike Jarin was quick to shoot the rumors down, saying Rivero was there for TV segment taping of a Channel 23 Sports and Action program.
“Sabi ko na nga ba eh,” Jarin told SPIN.ph via text message, anticipating that there will be queries with regard to Rivero’s activities in the campus. “I think andun sila kasi may shoot ang UAAP Upfront (show).”
A member of the UAAP Upfront production team verified Jarin’s account, saying that they did bring Rivero to the campus for a shoot with the Lady Bulldogs.
With Rivero reportedly available, the Bulldogs seem to be a logical destination considering their strong recruitment program and their willingness to bring high-profile talents aboard.
But Jarin was firm in saying that they have no intentions of joining the Rivero sweepstakes, as they have an abundance of talent in their pool that they’d like to see blossom in the coming years.
“For the record, wala kaming plano kunin ang magkapatid kasi punong-puno din kami ng players na we would like to give a chance to make it,” Jarin said.
