RICCI Rivero bounced back from an awful UAAP Season 80 debut with a solid performance against National University on Saturday.
Rivero scored 21 points, seven rebounds, and two assists as the Green Archers won over the Bulldogs, 115-109, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Coming off a two-point debut where he shot 1-of-11 from the field against Far Eastern University, Rivero said he looked for his teammates more this time around against NU.
"Sabi ni coach Aldin, don't look for your shots, just let the game come to me," said Rivero.
Although he only had two assists, Rivero had one dish-off that helped La Salle seal the win when he dished off to his brother Prince during a late 6-0 run that put the Archers ahead, 112-107.
"Ang nag-stick sa mind ko 'yung don't look for your shots kasi sabi nga nila, mas magiging magaling ka na player if mapapagaling mo mga teammates mo," said Rivero.
With Rivero showing the way, La Salle upped its mark to 2-0 on Saturday to gain a share of the lead in the team standings with Ateneo, which beat University of the Philippines on Wednesday.
As he recovered from his struggles in the first game, Rivero looks to have the same mindset of dishing the ball more and hopefully getting more assists as the season goes by especially with Ben Mbala returning to La Salle very soon.
"I really look forward to creating shots for my teammates," Rivero said.
