Rey Suerte ready for jump to PBA after one-and-done season at UE

REY Suerte is ready to make the jump to the pros.

The 6-foot-3 super scorer out of Monkayo, Compostela Valley has expressed his intentions of declaring for the 2019 PBA Rookie Draft.

"Siguro aakyat na sa PBA kung papalarin," he said when asked about his plans after ending his short UAAP career with University of the East on Wednesday.

Suerte has more than proven himself in his brief run with the Red Warriors, averaging 17.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.2 steals to put himself in consideration for a spot in the Mythical Team.

The 24-year-old guard had a successful college career back in Cebu, winning three titles with University of the Visayas while also bagging two Cesafi MVP awards.

Suerte said his UE run although brief was an eye-opener for him, testing his mettle against tough competition in preparation for the pro ranks.

"Grabe ang competition dito, sobrang hirap talaga. Pero na-amaze ako sa sarili ko kasi kaya ko palang makipagsabayan kaya thankful ako," he said.

Suerte is expected to be a first-round selection in the annual rookie proceedings, set on December 8.
