REY Remogat had to stomach a rough start in maroon — none tougher than that 20-point beatdown UP suffered at the hands of UST in his debut last September.
In that 0-2 skid to open UAAP Season 88, the heralded Recto guard tagged as JD Cagulangan’s successor could only muster 2.5 points, 2.0 boards, and 1.0 assist off the bench.

Since then, UP has won seven of its last eight, with Remogat earning his way into head coach Goldwin Monteverde’s starting unit and at the core of the Fighting Maroons’ offense.
That shift mirrored the former Red Warrior’s personal quest: to prove that he could also run the show over in Diliman.
“Mas nakukuha ko na ‘yung rhythm ko sa games at mas nakakapag-focus ako na ilaro ‘yung laro ko sa gustong sistema ni coach Gold, kaya kusa na ring lumalabas ‘yung nilalaro ko ngayon,” Remogat told SPIN.ph.

Behind graduating vet Harold Alarcon and Nigerian big Francis Nnoruka, Remogat has emerged as UP’s third-leading scorer, averaging 10.9 points, 4.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.3 steals in just 24 minutes a night.
So when the time came to face the Growling Tigers again, UP’s newest playmaker cracked the whip on their first-round tormentor with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including five triples in a cardiac 89-88 win.
Rey's here to sting
That performance was also a reminder for the maroon faithful that Remogat is dead-set on taking his role seriously — flipping a shaky start into a memorable run thus far.
“Ganun naman lahat eh, kapag pangit ‘yung umpisa, wala namang ibang dapat gawin kundi bumawi,” he said.
“Hindi lang bawi — kailangan naming maging mas consistent sa magandang nilalaro namin at sa mga panalo namin.”
