It wasn’t a smooth ride considering National University’s series of knockout games from even before the Final Four to the title series but for Rev Diputado, it was quite a smooth transition from juniors champion in the NCAA to college tit

WINNING championships seem to be a habit for Rev Diputado.

A member of the San Beda Red Cubs team that won numerous NCAA juniors titles, Diputado added another feather to his cap on Wednesday when National University beat Far Eastern University for the UAAP Season 77 men’s basketball crown.

Diputado is only in his rookie year with the Bulldogs and was certainly glad to win yet another championship.

“Sobrang suwerte ko kahit rookie ako, champion ako. Ang sarap ng feeling,” said Diputado, who had Ateneo’s Arvin Tolentino, this year’s UAAP Rookie of the Year, as one of his teammates with the Red Cubs.

Diputado considers NU’s victory as very fulfilling after he was able to quickly adjust in the way college games are played.

“Mas physical kasi sa college eh,” said Diputado, one of the back-up guards to main man Gelo Alolino, who played quality minutes all season for the Bulldogs.

In the decisive Game Three alone, Diputado scored all his five points in a crucial run that gave the Bulldogs a 49-35 lead midway in the third quarter.

Despite his offensive outburst, Diputado takes more pride from doing the dirty job on defense.

“Lagi lang ako ready sa depensa. ‘Yun lang ang ginagawa ko pagpasok ko,” said Diputado.
