TO borrow a quote from former King Tiger Jeric Teng, not today.
Renzo Subido didn't want Sunday to be his final game for University of Santo Tomas.
And he made sure to do just that, being the cool court general the high-octane Growling Tigers needed to get the 89-69 victory over University of the Philippines to extend the UAAP Season 82 stepladder semis to a knockout game.
Rather than be the one to light up the scoreboard, the graduating guard willingly set up his teammates as he dished out 12 of UST's 23 assists, matching UP's total as a collective.
"My teammates were open and binigay ko na lang bola sa kanila and na-shoot naman nila," Subido said, with his impeccable court vision aiding the Growling Tigers' mercurial 11-of-36 sniping from beyond the arc.
That's just the type of player coach Aldin Ayo wanted the 5-foot-9 playmaker to be, one that has mightily benefitted the Espana crew as they stayed alive and put themselves a win away from returning to the Finals.
"Coach Aldin wanted me to be a cerebral point guard kaya I did my job, I saw my teammates open, and I gave them the ball," said Subido, who also had eight points on a 2-of-8 shooting to his name in the victory. "Yung score ko naman, dumarating off the play. I have teammates na magaling sa scoring like sila Rhenz (Abando) so yung scoring part darating na lang."

Extending his collegiate career for one more game, Subido continues to keep his fingers crossed that Wednesday's do-or-die tilt still won't be his last as he aims to finish his UAAP career in contention for a championship against the powerhouse Ateneo crew.
And for that to happen, the 23-year-old said that it's all about staying true to what has worked all season long: believing in Ayo's system.
"We just have to trust in coach Aldin," he said. "Naniniwala ako na whatever ang ipagawa sa amin ni coach Aldin is for the best of the team, and whatever game plan or adjustment that coach Aldin will give us, then we'll just have to focus na magawa yun."
