LIKE father, like daughter.
Reese Sablan, 8, turned heads towards the University of Santo Tomas bench as the daughter of the Tigers coach cheered animatedly for the team from start to finish during Saturday’s match against Far Eastern University.
The young Sablan has been a fixture in UST games, but what made her popular these days is her reactions. The Sablans have even been featured on a split screen by ABS-CBN Sports during its coverage of the UAAP, including on Saturday, where dad and daughter showed similar emotions.
The younger Sablan said her passion to cheer her heart out for UST is borne out of her love and adoration to her father. She’s also a regular at UST practices after her classes, and naturally emulates her father’s drive.
“I love my dad so I will support my dad everyday,” said Reese in a brief interview after UST’s match at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“My dad is so passionate,” she added.
Basketball has been a bonding experience for the Sablans. According to friends of the Sablan family, Reese would speak to her father to tell him about what UST needs to do in a particular game.
So far, UST is on a slump as the Growling Tigers fell to a 2-4 win-loss record after suffering back-to-back losses.
That, however, won’t stop Reese from cheering to her heart’s delight for her favorite team.
“UST is my favorite. I will support UST everyday,” said Reese.
