AS much as he wants to play, Ateneo star Kiefer Ravena will have to sit out the first UAAP game of his career.
The Blue Eagles star, who wears an orthopedic boot on his right foot to protect his ankle injury, confirmed that he is still listed as day-to-day as far as his return is concerned.
"Wala pa definite na time, we're taking it a day at a time," he said before Ateneo's game against Far Eastern University at the MOA Arena on Wednesday.
Ravena tried to play through the injury on Saturday during Ateneo's season debut against National University, but was left frustrated by his lack of mobility and explosiveness as the Eagles lost, 64-54.
Now he's not taking any chances as he sat out the Tamaraws game.
"Nakakalungkot kasi hindi ako makakatulong sa team," he said. "Excited pa naman ako for this season."
Ravena said he is also doubtful for the Eagles' next game on Sunday - the first Ateneo-La Salle showdown in the UAAP this season.
Kiefer’s mother Mozzy said she feels twice the pain for her son.
"Oo super sad, nakakaiyak lang," said the former University of Santo Tomas volleyball player.
But Ravena is still confident the Eagles can even their win-loss mark as they take on the FEU Tamaraws (1-0).
"Tiwala naman ako sa teammates ko," he said. "Alam ko naman 'yung capabilities nila gagawin nila everything for us to win."
