SECURITY measures just couldn’t prevent scalpers from getting their hands on tickets for the highly-anticipated clash between archrivals De La Salle and defending champion Ateneo this Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
A check by Spin.ph on online selling sites Friday showed tickets for the first UAAP game of the year between the two archrivals are being sold at a maximum rate of eight times their face value, with upper box reserved seats tickets priced at P125 being peddled for P1,000.
Another online scalper had premium tickets being sold at P3,500, even though its regular price is only P550 - or around six times its true market price.
The original ticket prices are as follows: Premiere Café P550, VIP P350, Patron P350, Lower Box SRO P300, Lower Box P300, Upper Box SRO P125, Upper Box P125, General Admission P75.
The online scalpers had been selling their tickets a day after SM Tickets sold off around 3,000 tickets at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Tickets went on sale at the MOA Arena on Thursday morning, but these were only made available to Ateneo and La Salle students. The tickets are outside the ones being allocated by the UAAP to the two schools.
Buyers were only sold a maximum of two tickets each and were asked to show their student IDs for verification.
In a post on its Facebook page, SM Tickets said the tickets were made available only to students “to avoid tickets going to scalpers.”
Despite the measures, scalpers continued to ply their trade, with prices expected to increase in the two days leading up to the big match.
La Salle is looking to book its second straight win of the season, while Ateneo is aiming to break its two-game skid and finally nail a victory at the expense of its longtime rival.
Ateneo star Kiefer Ravena is not expected to play in the game due to a sprained ankle.
