NO matter how much Quentin Millora-Brown downplays his impact for the University of the Philippines, there’s a big reason why the Fighting Maroons brought him in this year as a one-and-done recruit.

And he certainly showed it with his performance in their semifinals showdown against resurgent University of Santo Tomas.

QMB anchored the interior for the Fighting Maroons, hauling down 19 boards and blocking four shots to go along with nine points and three assists, as they zoomed to their fourth straight championship appearance thanks to a 78-69 win Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Despite another big night, the 24-year-old is keeping his focus on the process and not the results, as he keeps himself grounded ahead of their championship rematch against La Salle.

“It’s just an everyday process for me,” Millora-Brown told SPIN.ph.

“It’s focusing on the details, focusing on the game plan, and just taking it day by day. There’s no such thing as too big or too little, I just have to play with the same, consistent energy.”

UP's Quentin Millora-Brown

The former Citadel Bulldog understands that it’s not going to get easier, especially now that he’s gotten a grasp of what it’s like to compete in playoff basketball in the UAAP.

He was certainly tested against the Growling Tigers, as he was the recipient of two unsportsmanlike fouls, the last one an elbow straight to his solar plexus which resulted to the ejection of Forthsky Padrigao.

But he brushed it off, reacted to it positively, kept his focus, and played his game. The result pretty much spoke for itself.

“It’s a hardfought game for us. Coach prepared us with what we needed to do. They said from the start that it’s going to be a war going on there. We have two more games to lock into,” Millora-Brown shared, as he now looks forward to that championship atmosphere beginning Dec. 8.

“I expect it to be crazy. I think it’s going to be loud with tons of energy. Things are gonna go all over the place, so I just have to be prepared to weather that storm, be prepared with adjusting on the fly.”

QMB, a difference-maker

With such hype surrounding his lone year in Diliman after his stint in the US NCAA, the expectations are certainly high for QMB, with more than a few people feeling that he might just well be the missing piece in the Fighting Maroons squad which has lost two consecutive championships.

Still, Millora-Brown isn’t letting it get to his head and instead focusing on his role: to bring the energy and continue to anchor the paint for the Fighting Maroons.

“I’m gonna maintain a consistent energy, attitude and my heart on the floor. It’s all about being that everyday guy.”
