DERICK Pumaren confirmed on Monday the transfer of Mark Nonoy and Deo Cuajao from University of Santo Tomas to La Salle.
"They will be a big addition for the team and it's a preparation for the graduation of Aljun (Melecio)," he said in a short text message.
Nonoy and Cuajao's entries couldn't be more welcome for La Salle with Aljun Melecio playing his fifth year in UAAP Season 83.
Both are expected to make the move official on Monday in a meeting with Green Archers' chief backer and presidential son-in-law Mans Carpio.
Spin.ph broke the story on Sunday, with Nonoy and Cuajao being the latest faces to depart the Growling Tigers lair following the controversial Bicol bubble.
The 5-foot-8 Nonoy, who won the UAAP Season 82 Rookie of the Year, posted 11.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists last year after his high school career with Hua Siong College of Iloilo and a year with the UST Tiger Cubs.
On the other hand, the 6-foot-1 Cuajao was sparingly used in his rookie season and amassed 13 points and 12 rebounds through 12 games, but showed a lot of promise with his shooting in the Growling Tigers' campaign in the 2020 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup.
The two have already posted lengthy messages expressing their gratitude to UST as they look ahead to the next chapter of their basketball careers.
Both only 19, Nonoy and Cuajao will have to serve residency next season and will be cleared to play in UAAP Season 84.
They will have three more playing years with the Green Archers.
There, they will share minutes with San Beda transferee Evan Nelle as they present La Salle's backcourt of the future.
