FAR Eastern University-Diliman high school star Jerie Pingoy doused speculations he is now training with UAAP champion Ateneo, saying that pictures of him playing in what appeared to be a practice session with the Blue Eagles was in fact a practice with the Smart Gilas cadet team.
A photo of Pingoy was posted online on Tuesday night through the Twitter account of former Ateneo Blue Eagle Bacon Austria, showing what appeared to be a practice session at the Moro Lorenzo Gym with one player clearly wearing an Ateneo jersey. The photo heightened speculations that Pingoy is all set to join the Blue Eagles.
The photo was captioned: “Good practice for ateneo basketball. Good sign for the eagles!”
Pingoy, however, made it clear that the photo was taken during a practice at the Moro Lorenzo Gym with the Gilas cadet team, which was indeed held last Monday where he joined several collegiate stars.
“Just finished training with Smart Gilas Team,” wrote Pingoy on his Twitter account @Jeriepingoy on Monday.
Pingoy also retweeted his Blackberry Messenger status stating: “Smart gilas training. Not Ateneo!”
Austria’s tweet has since been deleted.
FEU and Ateneo are in a heated tug-of-war over the two-time UAAP juniors MVP. The Tamaraws claim they have already secured Pingoy's commitment through a “signed agreement” but his father told a daily newspaper that he will play for the Blue Eagles “one million percent.”
Pingoy said in an earlier Spin.ph interview that he is still undecided on his college plans.
