WHILE he expressed his desire to help his alma mater, Pido Jarencio clarified he has not been informed by University of Sto. Tomas of any plan to hire a fill-in head coach before he is officially brought back in.
Longtime UST assistant coach Boy Sablan is set to be named Tigers head coach for Season 79, according to a source, who added that UST officials hope to have Jarencio back for Season 80.
Jarencio, newly named chief of basketball operations of Globalport in the PBA after being stripped of the head-coaching position, said he is not aware of such arrangement.
“Wala akong alam sa nangyayari o sa mga usapan na ganyan, kung meron mang ganyang usapan,” said Jarencio on Thursday.
Jarencio, who steered the Growling Tigers to the 2006 UAAP crown, admitted he indeed expressed willingness to help UST but said he has yet to be contacted by school officials.
As for the clamor of a few quarters to have him return as head coach, Jarencio said it’s not his decision to make.
“Nasa kaparian naman ’yun, hindi sa akin. Nagsabi lang ako ng availability ko. ‘Yun lang ‘yun. Hanggang dun lang,” Jarencio.
