PIDO Jarencio stands behind his former University of Santo Tomas players and colleagues amid the nasty rumors surrounding the team.
As the school conducts an investigation on the controversy particularly involving its head coach Bong Dela Cruz, the former UST coach took to Twitter to air his stand in this messy situation the men’s basketball team of his alma mater has found itself in.
In a story ran by fastbreak.com.ph, the website, citing unnamed sources, reported an alleged involvement by persons on the team in game-fixing by the Tigers during the UAAP Season 78 Finals against Far Eastern University, which they lost in three games. The report further added that the involved persons, which they refused to name, have acquired new cars and a house after the series.
Jarencio, who stepped down as head coach of UST to take over the coaching job at GlobalPort in 2014, said he is sure that his former UST players will not get themselves involved in such activities.
“Sad to hear negative rumors to my former UST players. It's not true and im here to vouch for it.tthey are god fearing!,” wrote Jarencio on his @pidojarencio1 Twitter account.

Meanwhile, UST athletic director Fr. Ermito De Sagon told The Varsitarian that Dela Cruz remains the head coach of the squad pending the result of their investigation.
