THREE Senate Committees have scheduled a public hearing on Thursday to discuss bills that concerns the alleged commercialization of athletic leagues in the country.

The committees have invited officials of the collegiate leagues including the UAAP and the NCAA to talk about Senate Bill Number 2166 or the Magna Carta of Student-Athletes of Sen. Pia Cayetano and Senate Bill 1252 or the Sports Agent Responsibility and Trust Act of Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago.

The Senate Committee on Education, Arts, and Culture, Amateur Sports and Competitiveness, as well as the Committee on Games, Amusements, and Sports have scheduled the committee meeting on Thursday morning.

Expected to be discussed in the public hearing is the controversial two-year residency rule on high school graduates transferring from one UAAP member school to another.

Cayetano has been critical of the new UAAP rule, even throwing her support behind University of the Philippines swimmer Anna Bartolome after she contested the two-year residency rule before the courts after her move from University of Santo Tomas.

A Quezon City court even issued a Temporary Restraining Order on the UAAP rule that allowed Bartolome to compete in the college league's swimming championships last September.

So far, the UAAP said it doesn’t plan to revisit the contentious rule when the league holds its annual comprehensive board meeting this month.
