Perasol admits daunting task ahead, but vows not to let Eagles down

“I am well aware of the changes this team will undergo as far as (its) personnel is concerned. However, it is not going to deter me from finding a way (to) make us a strong contender all the time,” says new Ateneo coach Bo Perasol. Jerome Asca

NEW Ateneo coach Bo Perasol has acknowledged the formidable task ahead but has vowed to keep the Blue Eagles a championship contender as he takes over a team fresh from winning a fifth successive title in the UAAP.

Perasol was officially named new head coach of the team on Monday taking over from Norman Black, who after leading the team to one of the most dominant reigns in UAAP history has moved on to Talk 'N Text in the PBA.

Perasol admits the task of continuing the team's proud winning tradition will be a difficult one, especially at a time when the team will be losing two pillars in seven-foot slotman Greg Slaughter and Nico Salva.

But he has nonetheless vowed to give it his best shot.

“More than all the hype that went through with the process of appointing the next head Ateneo head coach is the daunting task of keeping the team hungry and prepared to contend for another UAAP championship,” Perasol said in a message to Spin.ph, shortly after his appointment was made official.

“I am well aware of the changes this team will undergo as far as (its) personnel is concerned. However, it is not going to deter me from finding a way (to) make us a strong contender all the time,” he added.

Perasol, a former UP Maroon who built his coaching credentials behind Powerade's surprising run to a PBA Finals last season, was originally signed to a three-year deal by Ateneo which the two parties later rescinded "mutual consent" after the parting of ways between the school and top patron Manny Pangilinan.

On Monday, the school announced that the search committee met on Friday and affirmed their recommendation for Perasol to take over from Black.

His appointment will be in effect by December 1.
