BOBBY Ray Parks and RR Garcia, the last two to win the league MVP trophy, are ready to play in the UAAP season opener on Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena despite sustaining injuries during the preseason.
Parks sustained a contusion in the wrist of his non-shooting right hand during National University's run to the Filoil Cup preseason title while Far Eastern University star Garcia injured his ankle when he saw action for NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup finals.
Last June 26, Parks, one of the most gifted players to play in the premier college league, posted on his Twitter account: “Hate being injured:(?#therapy”.
However, the son of eight-time PBA best import Bobby has told Spin.ph the injury won't keep him from suiting up in the Bulldogs' season debut.
“I’ll play in the opening game,” Parks assured.
Compared to Parks' injury, Garcia's appeared more serious as the 2010 league MVP wasn’t able to practice with the Tamaraws for three weeks, according to FEU coach Bert Flores.
“Gumagaling na ang injury niya pero wala pa siya sa shape,” said Flores. “Hindi siya nag-papractice puro therapy lang.”
“Pero lalaro siya sa Sabado,” Flores assured.
The Parks-led Bulldogs will open the season against University of the East at 2 p.m. Garcia and his Tamaraws will go up against University of Santo Tomas in the second game at 4 p.m.
