    UAAP action to take week-long break during five-day visit of Pope Francis

    THE UAAP will take a break from January 15-19 to give way to Pope Francis’ first-ever visit in the country.

    Action in the women’s and men's volleyball tournaments in the early part of the second round will no longer be played on January 17 and 18.

    Also giving way to the Papal visit is the second-round competition of the juniors basketball tournament which will go on a week-long break shortly after its January 14 playdate.  

    The volleyball and juniors basketball tournaments resume on January 21.

    Incidentally, UAAP member school University of Santo Tomas will be among the places to be visited by the Pope as he is scheduled to be at its Espana grounds on January 18.

    The Pope will be meeting the youth at UST, where he will also lead the enthronement of the cross, Liturgy, reading of the Responsorial Psalms, Gospel, closing prayer, and Angelus.

    Pope Francis is arriving in the country on January 15 where a motorcade will be held on the way to his official residence.

    President Aquino will welcome the Pope at Malacanang on January 16, before celebrating mass at the Manila Cathedral.

    Likewise’ he’ll meet select families at the Mall of Asia Arena.

    Pope Francis will be leaving for Tacloban on January 17 prior to the event at UST and a mass at the Quirino Grandstand on the 18th.

    He leaves for Rome on January 19.
