DE LA Salle has started its preparations for the Philippine Collegiate Championship League, a month after the Green Archers won the UAAP crown.

La Salle coach Juno Sauler said the Green Archers started practice last week, obviously out of shape after their conquest in Game Three of the UAAP men’s basketball final against University of Santo Tomas last October 12.

All of the Green Archers from the UAAP roster were present with the exception of LA Revilla, who has joined the PBA and part of the Globalport roster.

“Wala sa shape,” said Sauler. “That’s what we were trying to focus on last week. We had short scrimmages dahil pagod agad sila.”

With the Archers winning the UAAP crown, La Salle gained an outright spot in the round-robin Final Four along with the NCAA, Southern, and Luzon-Metro Manila champions vying for the national championship.

The Final Four teams will have to wait as qualifying tournaments are being held this month in various parts of the country.

Sauler said the coaching staff hasn’t discussed anything yet about their goals in the PCCL tournament.

“Our primary goal right now is just to stay in shape. We haven’t discussed anything about the PCCL. We are just trying to get back in shape first,” said Sauler.

The Green Archers are looking to win their second PCCL crown after capturing their first in 2008.

PCCL defending champion UST can still make it to the Final Four if they hurdle their foes in the Luzon-Metro Manila bracket. It was the same route the Tigers took last year before beating Ateneo in the best-of-three series.
