FAR Eastern University head coach Olsen Racela rued his squad’s inability to stay disciplined and composed in their 95-79 defeat to Adamson in UAAP Season 80 on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

It was a very testy affair between the two squads, with the Tamaraws being assessed four unsportsmanlike fouls – even reaching a boiling point when Arvin Tolentino was ejected early in the fourth quarter for what looked like a kick on Dawn Ochea as the transferee forward was sprawling on the floor.

Tolentino already got an unsportsmanlike foul in the third quarter for an elbow on Tyrus Hill while Ron Dennison and Barkley Ebona also got theirs in the second half.

For Racela, those are the things that they could live without.

“Hindi pwedeng ganun. Buong team sinabihan ko kasi andami naming second motion. Disiplina yun sa paglalaro e. When you’re down, hindi lumalabas ang katapangan mo sa mga extra motions,” Racela said.

“Definitely frustration yun. Things were not going our way sa laro but then again it’s part of discipline e. Stay with the gameplan. Stay with the things that brought you our winning streak. Di namin nakita yun this game,” he added.

Racela has always reminded his squad about the consequences of their actions and they’re about to serve theirs in the second round.

With Tolentino’s ejection, the 6-foot-5 forward is expected to miss their first game in the second round unless the league downgrades his infractions.

Considering how Tolentino has played for them this season, that will be a major blow.

“We lost our discipline in this game. Baka suspended pa si Arvin, and then baka ang next game pa namin is, dahil sa scheduling, Final Four ata maglalaban so baka mabigat pa ang kalaban namin,” Racela continued.

“It’s not about him, it’s about the team, ngayon magus-suffer ang team dahil sa ginawa niya.”

At the end of the day, Racela believes that they got overconfident because of their winning run, having racked up three straight victories after starting the season with a 1-2 record.

Now it’s all about finding ways for him to get his squad back to playing like they did in that streak.

“Pumasok sa ulo namin yung winning streak, yung three game winning streak namin na hindi naman dapat ganun. We didn’t do the things that we were supposed to do,” Racela said.
