UNIVERSITY of the East picked up its second straight victory, beating University of Santo Tomas, 71-61, on Saturday in the UAAP Season 79 basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Tigers lost for the fourth straight time and now also hold a 2-6 card.
“That win against Adamson, ginamit namin as a positive. We need to pick it up from there,” said UE coach Derrick Pumaren.
Mark Olayon finished with 14 points and seven rebounds in a balanced attack for the Red Warriors, who forced the Tigers to 23 turnovers in the first half.
“I told the boys in the pregame talk, we have to come out and jump on them right away. We are coming off a win against Adamson and galing sila sa talo against Adamson so their morale is down so we took advantage of that. We forced them to throw the basketball,” said Pumaren.
