TWO members of reigning UAAP high school champion National University have committed to stay and suit up for the Bulldogs in the coming Season 77 of the league.
NU athletic director Junel Baculi said Mythical Five member John Paul Cauilan and Manuel Mosqueda will be included in the Bulldogs training pool, from where the team’s lineup for the coming seniors basketball tournament will be picked.
Cauilan and Mosqueda were instrumental in the Bullpups’ campaign last year that saw them complete a rare season sweep to win the UAAP championship.
The 6-foot-3 Cauilan led the team in scoring with an average of 16.2 points per game while also submitting 8.4 rebounds to make the 76 Mythical Five team of Season 76 along with Ateneo’s Thirdy Ravena, teammates Hubert Cani and Mark Dyke, and Adamson’s Reinier Quinga.
Mosqueda, who at 5-11 played guard and forward in high school, posted 9.4 rebounds, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.3 steals for the Bullpups.
Already committing to NU earlier were San Beda’s Rev Diputado and Chiang Kai Shek College’s Meds Salim.
The Bulldogs continued to stockpile their roster with high school graduates following the exit of two-time Most Valuable Player Bobby Ray Parks and several key players who had finished their playing eligibility for the school.
NU was coming off a season that saw the Bulldogs top the elimination round only to be ousted by fourth-seed University of Santo Tomas in the Final Four.
Out to bounce back from their disappointing season despite key player losses, NU coach Eric Altamirano said the team is scheduled to compete in several preseason tournaments to develop cohesion and experience before the UAAP campaign.
