ONLY a few courtside reporters get to see their teams win the championship.
Tricia Robredo almost missed out on her's.
The bubbly interviewer revealed to The Prospects Pod that she almost didn't come back for the Bulldogs' campaign back in 2014 as she was already pursuing her medical degree at that time.
"Actually that time, when ABS-CBN called me for my second and last season, I was tentative pa kung babalik pa talaga ako kasi I was already in med school eh," said Robredo, an Atenean who was tapped to handle the sideline chores for NU.
But a short chat with Bulldogs coach Eric Altamirano made her decide to stay.
"Sabi ni Coach E, mare-regret ko yun kung hindi ako bumalik," said Robredo.
The daughter of the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo and Vice President Leni Robredo was with the NU Bulldogs every step of the way in their Cinderella run.
"Kahit hindi sila kina-count na manalo, sobrang tatapang nila. And towards the end of the season, alam mong may chance sila (mag-champion) kasi go lang sila nang go. Sobrang inspiring to be in their presence," she said.
It proved to be the right decision for Robredo as NU reached the pinnacle and claimed the UAAP Season 77 title, ending a 60-year title drought for the Jhocson school.
It's a special memory that the now-26-year-old medicine student will treasure forever.
"Masaya ako na naging part ako (nung championship team) kahit hindi naman ako naglaro," she said. "It was nice to be there and see the whole thing and get an inside track of what's happening."
