NATIONAL University celebrated its UAAP Season 77 title with its multitude of supporters by holding a victory party at its school grounds in Sampaloc, Manila.
Thousands of students and alumni joined the celebration that was 60 years in the making after the Bulldogs won their first ever men's basketball championship since 1954 following their win over the Far Eastern University Tamaraws during their sudden-death match last week.
Roads nearby the campus were also closed to accommodate students and alumni who showed up during the event to celebrate the championship with the entire Bulldogs team.
NU made history by overcoming five do-or-die games, including the decisive Game Three of the Finals against the Tamaraws to become the first fourth-seeded team to win the UAAP title.
“We made history. You also help us make history,” said NU coach Eric Altamirano in front of a raucous NU crowd.
Finals MVP Alfred Aroga got the loudest cheers from audience as he thanked NU supported for their support all season.
"I won the MVP because of my teammates and because of you," Aroga told the crowd as chants of MVP rang out in NU's activity area.
Popular band Spongecola capped the evening by serenading the entire NU community while players granted autograph and photo requests from the students.
Aside from the men's basketball team, NU also honored the winning teams in the first semester of Season 77 in women's basketball, girls volleyball, men's beach volleyball, men's badminton, and cheerdance.
