    NU Bullpups shoot down Ateneo Blue Eaglets to gain share of early lead in UAAP Jrs

    NATIONAL University scored its second win in as many games, defeating Ateneo, 73-68, on Tuesday in the UAAP Season 79 juniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

    Winderlich Coyoca had 20 points including five triples as the Bullpups joined the Adamson Baby Falcons in the early lead.

    Karl Penano had 16 points, Rhayyan Amsali added 15 points, while John Clemente had a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Bullpups in a follow-up win to their 50-point blowout over University of the East on opening day.

    NU active consultant Jeff Napa lauded the boys as they proved this early that they can compete even without their star big man Justin Baltazar, who now plays for La Salle in the UAAP.

    “I’m happy for the boys na they proved that there is life after Justin. Pero mahaba pa ang season,” said Napa.

    SJ Belangel had 23 points for the Blue Eaglets, who fell to 1-1.

    University of the East grabbed its first win, beating University of Santo Tomas, 87-77.

    Dustin Angeles had 20 points, while Rey Balundo had 19 points for the Junior Warriors, who had double-doubles from Andrei Dulalia (14 points, 12 rebounds) and Sean Manaug (13 points, 12 rebounds).

    UST is winless in two matches.
