NATIONAL University is back as semifinal contenders and coach Eric Altamirano is pleased to see the players do their specific jobs.
The veteran coach made special mention of Gelo Alolino, who has been a huge part in the Bulldogs’ rise from the bottom of the heap to a late contender for the semifinals with a 6-7 win-loss record.
“Si Gelo, napakalaki ng load niya this season. Imagine, he is our point guard and yet he is also the one who is scoring for us. I know it’s a big responsibility but he is living up to it,” Altamirano said.
Alolino again came up big in a crucial win over lowly University of the Philippines, registering a career-high 26 points. The NU veteran made crucial baskets in the fourth, hitting a triple that made it 66-60 before back-to-back lay-ups put the Bulldogs ahead by eight.

“He is carrying this team not only on offense but in everything that we do in and out of the court,” Altamirano said.
Altamirano noted, however, that other players have also been doing their jobs well.
“Pare-parehas lang kaming gustong manalo when it matters most. ’Yung binigay sa iyo na responsibility, kailangan i-deliver mo. May mga times din naman na other players naman, sila naman ’yung mainit. Magkakataon lang din siguro na dumarating ’yung chance,” he said.
