Season 75 host National University has invited distinguished alumnus Fidel V. Ramos to the opening rites of the UAAP on Saturday at the MOA Arena.
Before he entered the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, Ramos took up civil engineering at NU.
Ramos, however, has yet to respond to the invitation, according to UAAP president Nilo Ocampo.
“We are still in limbo,” said Ocampo. “It’s still not sure if he’ll make it for the opening because he is still in India.”
Ramos’ appearance is supposed to be one of the highlights of Saturday’s opening rites which begin at 12:30 p.m.
NU officials have kept the other details of the opening ceremonies secret, and hinted only that lights and sounds will be the main attraction of the event.
All team captains from the 28 events of the league will also take center stage in the rites which will be hosted by former Philippine No. 1 women’s singles tennis player Christine Patrimonio, daughter of three-time PBA MVP Alvin Patrimonio and now a member of the NU tennis team.
The Bulldogs open the new season against University of the East at 2 p.m. in the men’s basketball competitions.
