THERE seems to be no end to the University of the East Red Warriors’ woes.

Ralf Olivares became the latest player of the Recto-based squad to be sanctioned with a suspension for committing unsportsmanlike fouls during the Warriors’ UAAP men’s basketball game against National University Bulldogs on Saturday.

League commissioner Chito Loyzaga banned Olivares for two games.

In a memorandum issued following a video review of the match, Loyzaga said Olivares was slapped with the penalty for three incidents in the Warriors’ 73-81 loss.

“The rules of the UAAP league require that the highest standard of sportsmanship and fair play be observed on the court at all times. Moreover, as an official representative of your university, you are expected to embody the core values of your institution inside and outside of the playing court,” wrote Loyzaga in a memorandum.

Following the decision, Olivares will miss the Warriors’ next game against La Salle on September 4, and Ateneo on September 8.

Loyzaga said Olivares was caught planting his foot on the stomach of NU player Nico Javelona in the second quarter, which merited an unsportsmanlike foul.

The commissioner also said an unsportsmanlike foul was called on the player when he elbowed Robin Rono in the face while acknowledging a foul called on him during the third quarter.

The memo also noted Olivares was caught banging his body on NU’s Jeff Javillonar in the fourth quarter.

Olivares is the third UE player to be suspended in a week’s span owing to unsportsmanlike fouls.

Charles Mammie and Lord Casajeros were each slapped with a two-game ban owing to unsportsmanlike fouls, although Casajeros' suspension was reduced to just one game following an appeal made by the school to the UAAP technical committee.
