UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas caught its biggest fish yet, as it tries to usher in a new golden era in the UAAP.
NCAA Season 99 Juniors MVP Amiel Acido committed to the Growling Tigers on Friday and will be a big boost in their quest to return to the Final Four for the first time since 2019.
All that's needed to be finalized is his enrolment, sources said, as well as the final blessing from his parents who are in the US.
Amazing Amiel
Acido is a 6-foot-3 swingman who put Perpetual on his back en route to their first-ever finals appearance in Season 99. He was hailed as top player in his last year in high school after posting per game counts of 17.7 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 4.1 assists.
The all-around forward was also ranked as the No. 3 under-19 Filipino player, according to the National Basketball Training Center.

As such, Acido was hotly recruited by several schools in the NCAA and UAAP alike. As per sources, it all came down to the Altas and Ateneo before UST came rushing in and ultimately came out on top.
He is the Growling Tigers' first NCAA Juniors MVP commit since Jose Rizal University's Louie Vigil. He will be eligible right away in UAAP Season 87 in September, and will have five full playing years.
Acido joins the Growling Tigers' revitalized roster still led by Nic Cabanero, but now also includes Forthsky Padrigao, Kyle Paranada, and Leland Estacio.
