JJAY Alejandro said he himself couldn’t believe the kind of shots he was making in a career game against De La Salle.
Alejandro shot the lights out for National University on Wednesday, finishing with 25 points including 17 in the final period in a 81-73 win that kept the Bulldogs in the race for the Final Four.
The former youth player hit 3-of-4 from behind the three-point arc, the final two in back-to-back fashion that put NU ahead to stay, 65-58. He later made a gesture similar to the Michael Jordan shrug in the 1992 NBA Finals.
“’Yung three-points ko kasi, parang binato ko, tapos derecho pumasok,” said Alejandro, when asked about the gesture.
NU coach Eric Altamirano said Alejandro’s offensive outburst is exactly what the team needed at this point of the season where the Bulldogs are trying to catch the last bus to the Final Four.
“Si Jay talaga, every time he plays well for us, it’s a lot easier for us kasi sometimes, our defense is there but we sometimes lack the offensive firepower,” Altamirano said.
“Everytime he contributes like that, it makes it easy for us,” he added.
Alejandro said now is the right time to step up for the Bulldogs.
“Kailangan mag-step up kasi si Pao (Javelona) foul trouble tapos na-sprain si Kyle (Neypes). Kung ano lang ‘yung maitutulong ko sa team, gagawin ko,” said Alejandro.
“Big win talaga ‘to kasi must-win talaga. Kung natalo pa kami, siguro wala na kaming chance sa Final Four,” he added.
