NASH Racela has a live contract with Far Eastern University that will ensure the young coach will be the Tamaraws head coach for the “foreseeable future.”
FEU athletic director Mark Molina assured that Racela will still be with the Tamaraws as their head coach in the midst of a PBA head coaching offer from Globalport.
Racela, who helped the Tamaraws return to the Final Four in UAAP Season 76, is also an assistant coach at Talk 'N Text in the PBA.
“Nash has a live contract with FEU and will be coach of the Tamaraws for the foreseeable future,” said Molina.
Racela, brother of San Mig Coffee assistant coach Olsen Racela, was offered the head coaching job by Globalport to replace Junel Baculi even after leading Batang Pier to a playoff appearance in the PBA Governors’ Cup. Racela declined.
Racela’s decision prevented a reunion with former FEU stars Terrence Romeo and RR Garcia in the professional ranks.
Ritchie Ticzon, a former FEU assistant coach, was named the interim coach of Globalport.
Molina said Racela drawing interest from PBA teams is, like the drafting of Romeo and Garcia, a testament to FEU’s sports program.
“A PBA team making an offer to Nash says a lot about his capability as a coach and just like FEU players getting drafted is a testament to a strong program,” said Molina.
