KIEFER Ravena said Kevin Ferrer also deserved to be Most Valuable Player, the reason he asked the University of Santo Tomas star to lift the MVP trophy with him during the awarding ceremony of the UAAP Season 78 basketball tournament on Saturday.

Shortly after being named the league MVP for the second time in his career, Ravena asked Ferrer to stand by his side and raise the MVP trophy with him in a gesture that drew cheers from the UST crowd awaiting Game Two of the finals against Far Eastern University.

When asked to explain his gesture, the Ateneo King Eagle said he felt Ferrer also deserved the MVP award.

“I share it with him kasi he deserve it talaga,” said Ravena, who beat the UST star for the league's highest individual honor, which is based solely on statistics.

“He was probably two points or maybe two or three rebounds of really getting the MVP. More than the statistics, it’s how he represented his school very well and I’m really proud of him.”

Interestingly, Ferre won the MVP award over Ravena during their fourth year in high school.

Ravena, who averaged 18.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists for the Blue Eagles in his final year in the collegiate ranks, said he cherishes his friendship with Ferrer.

The two were teammates in a number of tournaments overseas, the last in this year’s Southeast Asian Games.

“1-1 na kami sa MVP. More than the award is the companionship and friendship we shared being great competitors and just wanting to help the school win,” said Ravena.
