MATHEW Montebon has a knack for making bold predictions.

After all, he was one of the few who believed that Adamson can make it to the Final Four last season – just when everyone viewed their team as among the league’s weakest.

It turned out, the 22-year-old was right.

This time out, the Fil-Am guard knows that the Soaring Falcons have gained a lot more believers in the run-up to UAAP Season 88.

Still, he’s not shying away from giving his own forecast for this team this season.

“I’m not sure if making the Final Four is a bold prediction anymore. So I’ll go on and say we can make it to the championship because I think we have the talent to make it,” he told SPIN.ph.

As bold as that take was, Montebon means every part of it, shutting out the outside noise and dialing in on the capacity of this resolute Adamson side, one that has fully bought into the system of coach Nash Racela.

“I’ve never really worried about what teams think of us. I’m more worried about how I view myself and how our teammates view each other. I think it’s more important how we carry ourselves every game rather than thinking of how others think of us,” he explained.

Add-Ur Soaring Falcons

Montebon made it clear: he wants all of it.

The glory, the championships, the respect. Adamson is out to get all of those.

“You always got to have that chip on your shoulder, especially us not coming from a big school like UP or La Salle,” said the 6-foot sniper. “We want what they have. They have all the championships, all that glory, so we have to work for those types of stuff.”

But that’s really the keyword for the Soaring Falcons: work, which they’ve done all across last season and they intend to do once again in this campaign.

“I think our confidence will come from all the work we put in. So as long as we put the work in, I think the confidence that we have in each other will be there,” Montebon said.
