NOT even a victory in the PBA could take away the grief of GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio after University of Santo Tomas fell short of the UAAP crown once again.
The former Growling Tigers coach could not help but feel for his former team as he immediately talked about his feelings about UST’s 67-62 Game Three loss to Far Eastern University in the UAAP Finals when he entered the press room at the end of GlobalPort's win on Wednesday.
“My heart is bleeding,” Jarencio said as he sat down, surprising some who thought he would first talk about the Batang Pier’s 96-90 win over NLEX in the Philippine Cup.
Jarencio led the Tigers to their last title in 2006 and was also at the helm when they fell short in 2012 and 2013.
“Disappointing,” a dejected Jarencio said. “Those are the same players na naglaro nung finals three years ago, kaya medyo masakit kasi akala ko this is the time na eh.”
“Pero talagang ganyan eh,” the affable coach was quick to add. “Hindi pa siguro para sa UST eh. Life must go on.”
Jarencio said he refused to get news about the UAAP game until the Batang Pier sealed the win so he wouldn’t lose focus.
“Tinanong ko nung huli na lang,” he said.
