FAR Eastern University used a huge fourth quarter run to blow past University of the Philippines, 75-58, on Sunday in the UAAP Season 78 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

The Tamaraws launched a 12-0 blast in a five minute stretch that turned a 53-49 lead into a 65-49 advantage to claim their second straight victory.

FEU hiked its win-loss record to 3-1, tying Ateneo and University of Santo Tomas for the lead in the team standings as UP suffered its second straight loss for a 2-2 mark.

Raymar Jose had 11 points and 13 rebounds, Mike Tolomia added 11 points while Achie Inigo and Roger Pogoy had 10 points each for FEU.

“Hard earned win,” FEU coach Nash Racela said. “This week kasi, we will be playing three teams that like to press. Right now, that’s the problem that we are having. We are having too many turnovers. But I think we played better in the second half.”

“I think everything started with defense when we made it really tough for UP to execute,” said Racela on that fourth-quarter run.

“That was the difference in the first half, madali silang naka-execute.”

Jose scored the final five points of that fourth-quarter run, including a three-point play that made it a 16-point game with 2:54 left.
