MCJOUR Luib admitted it was a weird feeling to be an assistant coach on the La Salle bench in the UAAP while coaching players who are mostly his contemporaries.
“Siyempre, sa una, awkward pero tinatanggap ko na tapos na ako (sa playing career ko sa college),” said the 23-year-old Luib, a former Letran player who joined former Knights coach Aldin Ayo in the La Salle staff.
“’Yung trabaho namin na pinapagawa ni coach, ‘yun ang ginagawa ko.”
Luib formally joined the Green Archers coaching staff on the bench on Saturday in the game against Adamson. The former Letran point guard started attending La Salle practices on Friday, a day after the Knights finished their campaign in NCAA Season 92.
“Nag-oobserve lang ako. ‘Yung pinapagawa ni coach Aldin sa akin, ginagawa ko lang,” said Luib, who is tasked to do scouting chores for the Green Archers.
Luib said being an assistant coach at his age is quite awkward.
“Mahirap kasi tawag ko sa kanila, idol. Ako rin, tawag nila sa akin, idol. Siguro in time (makaka-adjust na),” said Luib.
Ayo’s treatment of his players will help him in the adjustment stage, Luib said.
“Tine-treat pa rin naman ako ni Coach Aldin as player kasi parang ako ‘yung kalaban ng Team A, isasali ako sa Team B,” said Luib, who is still intent on making it to the PBA when he applies for the draft this year.
