THE eligibility of Matthew Aquino to play for National University in Season 79 of the UAAP has been put in a cloud of doubt by certain issues, a source confirmed to SPIN.ph on Tuesday.
A source said Aquino's chances of playing this season came under question amid claims that the 6-foot-9 son of former PBA star Marlou didn't meet the required number of days a student-athlete should attend school.
Aquino, however, has already completed his one-year residency at NU after his transfer from Adamson.
The possibility that Aquino might not play came days before 2014 champion NU opens its campaign in Season 79 against University of the East on Wednesday.
UAAP and NU officials have yet to answer querries on Aquino's status as of posting time.
The absence of Aquino could be a big blow for the Bulldogs, more so since the young big man has shown signs of improvement in the preseason specifically on his skills and shooting range.
Aquino made the move to NU after one season with Adamson, leaving the Falcons after Kenneth Duremdes was fired as coach.
